syrup
- preheat oven to 350º
- boil and simmer 5 minutes
- 1 1/2 c. water
- 1 1/2 c. sugar
- add and simmer 5 more minutes
- 1 t. lemon juice
dough
- grind in blender into small pieces
- 1 lb. nuts
- add to nuts
- 3 T. sugar
- individually butter 7 sheets of phyllo dough
- 1 c. butter
- 1 lb. phyllo dough
- place sheets in 9×13 inch pan
- spread on dough
- 1/3 c. nuts
- continue to butter and layer phyllo dough, adding 1/3 c. of nuts after each 7 layers
- pour remaining butter over top
- bake 30 minutes
- cover with foil and bake 25 more minutes at 300º
- pour cold syrup over the top
- let stand for several hours
